The Cadillac XT5 has allowed Cadillac to firmly establish itself in the important luxury compact SUV segment. With its XT5, Cadillac is able to compete on par with the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLCs of the world. Where the XT5 is different, however, is that it is much more spacious than its German rivals while being a little more comfortable too. It also comes packed with more features including a few active safety technologies and driver assistance systems that really stand out.

A lot of Luxury and Comfort in the Cadillac XT5

When you carry a Cadillac emblem, you are expected to be able to stand out in terms of comfort and refinement. This is certainly the case with the Cadillac XT5. The drive is quite refined, and we feel properly isolated from other drivers and sounds out on the road. That said, the XT5 is far from being a soft or boring to drive SUV.

It’s the opposite in fact. The XT5 is solid enough on the road with precise steering and good accelerations. It offers a range of powerful engines as well including a 3.6-litre V6 developing 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. You can also opt for an impressive turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a healthy 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is not only very powerful, it is also surprisingly fuel-efficient with an impressive fuel consumption rating hovering around 9.0 litres per 100 kilometres. For a luxury SUV, that’s simply remarkable.

Combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, the XT5 delivers balanced performance. Balanced is actually the right way to describe the new Cadillac XT5. It is comfortable and spacious, but also powerful and fun to drive. When you are behind the wheel of a Cadillac XT5, you enjoy surprising performance as well as a quiet and refined interior that has all of the technology you want. The Cadillac User Experience infotainment system, for example, is easy to use and easy to understand, giving you everything you need at your fingertips.

Its trunk is larger than what we find in German luxury SUVs in this segment and can accommodate 849 litres with all seats in place. That’s almost 300 litres more than the X3 or the GLC.
